WELCOME @ GURU NANAK KHALSA COLLEGE, KARNAL

Ex-President Message

Sardar Tara Singh was the beacon light of the politics of Haryana who having been associated with active politics for almost half a century, earned for himself a unique identity and an honorable place which will always be written in golden letters in the annals of history. Though recognized as a true sikh and a sikh face in Haryana Politics, he enjoyed great respect in political circles particularly among the Punjabis of Haryana because of his secular credentials, far sightedness, progressive outlook and selfless service. He gave a new lease of life to innumerable, desolate and desperate youth by guiding their paths and played a major role in the field of politics, social and education for the overall development of society.

Imbibing such noble thoughts and outlook as a person Sardar Tara Singh was born on December 29, 1929 at Gujranwala (Pakistan). His father, Sardar Hari Singh Ji was a Renowned Advocate, industrialist, Landlord and a famous social reformer. His grandfather was also a respectable Lawyer in Pakistan. After completing his school education at Gujranwala he did his B.A. from Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. He obtained his LLB degree from Law College, Jalandhar and then settled in Karnal city. During this period, his father expired, and had to shoulder the responsibility of the entire family. He successfully performed the role of head of family and established it with grit and commitment. Sardar Ji started practice as an advocate in 1955. As the quality of leadership was in his blood, he was elected president of the Karnal Bar Association for three consecutive terms. He involved himself in active politics and Jannayak Ch. Devi Lal was so impressed with his political acumen that he was fielded from Pehowa Vidhan Sabha constituency as a Janta Party candidate. He was given cabinet berth in Haryana Govt. from 1977 to 1982. He was elected from Shahbad Markanda constituency in 1982 and was appointed speeker of the State Assembly for five years. Another feather was added to his political career when Sardar Ji was elected an MP from Kurukshatra Parliamentory Seat. As an MP, he was included in the Speaker`s panel of parliament and presided over the sessions many times. He travelled abroad umpteen times as representative of various committies and contributed towards strengthening bilateral relation with other Countries. His close proximity to former chief minister of Punjab, Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon and Sardar Darbara Singh helped him to undertake many social projects.

From the first chief minister of Haryana Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma to Ch. Bansi Lal, Ch. Bhajan Lal, and Ch. Om Parkash Chautala, sardar Ji enjoyed their full confidence and close proximity. He never indulged in any kind of Political impropriety and that was the reason that the leader of every political party, had respect for him. His image was perceived as that of a Saint— a Darvesh, a Gurmukh rather than a Politician. He inherited social service and strict discipline in life from his family environment. Having acquired high ethical and moral value from his cultured family, he always looked forward to helping the needy. He served with selfless interests with high ideals and cooperative attitude. He derived self-satisfaction from social service. Besides being an able politician, a renowned social reformer, he was an educationist par excellence. He has played a pivotal role in enhancing the cause of education in Haryana. His role and contribution in establishing Bhagwan Parshu Ram College, Kurukshetra and DAV College, Pehowa is known to one and all. He was the founder president of DAV College, Pehowa.

Sardar Ji was the founder of Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Karnal. He was appointed General Secretary of the college management committee in 1971 and after that he was elected president of its committee in 1979. Since 1979, he remained president of the college managing committee continuously for 31 year. During this period the college witnessed difficult circumstances and was faced with financial crunch. But under the able leadership of Sardar Ji in the role of a Messiha, all issues were resolved. This is the result of his efforts that our college enjoys a prestigious place among the best colleges of Hatyana. Today not only in academic, but also in the field of sports, NCC, NSS and cultural activities the college has earned a name for itself. His immense contribution towards the development of the college will never be forgotten.  Dedicating his life for social cause, he left us all on January 12, 2010 —–an unbearable loss. There is no denying the fect that there is always a woman behind a successful man. Sardarni, Gurdev Kaur, wife of Sardar Ji worked tirelessly for the success of her husband and stood by him in all adds.  She has nurtured her son, Sardar Kanwarjit Singh Prince with high moral values, who, following into the footsteps of his illustrious father, is making all out efforts to undertake the unfinished tasks of Sardar ji.

The managing Committee, Guru Nanak Khalsa College Karnal, Principal, Faculty, Non-Teaching staff and Students pledge to tread the path as shown by this noble soul and that will be the true homage to the everlasting sweet memory of Sardar Ji.
